I’m a child of the 80s… which also coincided with the best childhood adventure movies of all time like The Star Wars Trilogy, Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET and The Goonies.
The Goonies has continued to resonate with me. I love the sense of adventure and the end result of the kids saving the day. I literally was chunk, my friends made fun of me in the same way and I was overweight and naïve.
I had the opportunity to go to Astoria, Oregon and visit the Goonies filming locations that included The breathtaking Haystack beach, Where are the film ends and the Goonies save the day.
There’s irony in finding the needle in the haystack. That’s what the goonies represents to me. In the context of the story, it’s finding the pirate treasure in the nick of time to save the adults from having their properties foreclosed.
As I’ve gotten older, the movie has taken on a different form…a different meaning. It brings me back to my youth And the excitement of adventure. It’s still stirs the same feelings. I uncover the needle in the my haystack. Now that needle represents my intuition, my joy and the spark of creativity within me that sometimes gets covered up. The place that used to live freely in me as a kid which now I sometimes need to be reminded of. It also represents “our time.”

Mikey’s speech resonated with me as a kid and it continues to resonate with me today. As a kid it was about taking what control I had and making things happen. Now as an adult, it’s our time Resonates again, only this time the stakes are higher. I’ve lived through the down here it’s my time speech as a youth. Now now I’m living the ups here it’s our time. We got to do what’s right for us. Now!
